Practical & Common Sense Advice for Businesses
If you are the owner of a rurally-based business, or self-employed, you may sometimes feel totally on your own. That’s why a new support network is linking businesses across Dorset – with particular emphasis on the rural areas. If you are based in urban areas Rural-Net offers a fantastic opportunity to connect with businesses in rural areas.
Rural-Net enables you to get together with others to exchange ideas and experience in a warm and friendly environment, hear from business experts and increase your business success and ultimately your bottom line.
Face-to-face discussion between business owners and managers at Rural-Net meetings promotes growth and development of individual businesses, mutual support and even collaboration.
Rural-Net is run by WSX Enterprise, the organisation which ran the Business Link service in Dorset, and it will build on the highly successful rural business clubs previously established under the Business Link banner.
Each Rural-Net hub meets monthy, and sessions scheduled for 2012 will provide insights and tips on sales on critical business issues such as marketing, improving cash flow, getting the best from your staff and growing your business.
Ian Girling, Enterprise Director of WSX Enterprise, says:
Looking forward, there will be a major focus on informative sessions by experts in their field, and via an online virtual notice board, members will be able to connect with other businesses in Dorset and share experiences and opportunities. At WSX our role is helping business owners, but we know that they can very much help each other too. Pound for pound, joining Rural-Net is likely to be the best investment you will make in improving your bottom line.
Rural-Net meets across Dorset at locations convenient for your business. The six Rural-Net hubs are:
- East Dorset (Wimborne, Verwood, Ferndown and surrounding areas)
- North Dorset (Gillingham, Shaftesbury, Stalbridge Sturminster Newton and surrounding areas)
- Forum (Blandford and surrounding areas)
- Hardy (Dorchester and surrounding areas)
- Marshwood (Lyme Regis, Beaminster, Bridport and surrounding areas)
- Abbey (Sherborne and surrounding areas)
Rural-Net Meeting Format
Each club meets at 6.00pm on a monthly basis at different venues around the area. Meetings begin with a one course hot supper followed by coffee which gives everyone the opportunity to network and exchange ideas on business issues.
Supper is followed by two six minute presentations from the membership. This enables everyone to learn about you and your business. Names are drawn out of a hat to present at the following meeting. New members have the opportunity of one minute to introduce themselves.
The clubs co-ordinator then presents a ‘verbal notice board’ highlighting forthcoming opportunities to attend free seminars & workshops, advising members of any grant funding, and reiterating new business legislation.
This is followed by the main presentation of the evening. Typically we will covere critical business issues such as Marketing, Finance, Legislation, Sales & Promotion, or other relevant business subjects.
Meetings close at around 9pm – giving members a further chance to network.
